Terms and Conditions

  1. Peer Tutoring Booking System (“Booking System” or the “System”) is an online platform matching admitted Peer Tutors and Tutees of the two Peer Language Tutoring Programmes (“the Programmes”), namely Peer English Tutoring and Survival Cantonese, organised by the Counselling and Person Enrichment Section (CoPE) of the Centre of Development and Resources for Students (CEDARS).
  1. This Booking System is only accessible to current students of the University of Hong Kong (HKU) who seek practice and network opportunities for building social confidence via peer tutoring to perform Peer Tutor/Tutee registration and tutorial bookings. Graduates and individuals from any third party are not entitled to participate in the programmes nor access the Booking System.
  1. All tutoring sessions of the Programmes are offered by admitted Peer Tutors on a voluntary basis and are free of charge. Only students who have been admitted as Tutees of the Programmes will be granted rights to perform booking and access to the details of the tutoring sessions. Generating profits or benefits in any means or manners from the tutoring sessions, providing information on the System to third parties, or extracting information for commercial purposes would be subject to disciplinary actions.
  1. All users of the Booking System should only use the platform and its contents for lawful purposes. They should not use the system and the tutoring platforms (Zoom, Microsoft Teams) to post, transmit, distribute or store any messages, documents or other materials in violation of any applicable law or regulation, or in any manner that will infringe the copyright, trademark, trade secrets or other intellectual property rights of others or violate the privacy or publicity or other personal rights of others, or in any manner that is libellous, obscene, threatening, abusive, hateful or likely to be perceived as such by any user.
  1. Using the Booking System for any illegal, fraudulent or harmful purposes or activities, including posting or sharing of any unauthorised content that contains false, inaccurate, misleading or defamatory information, which may be damaging to the organiser, programme participants or any third party, is strictly prohibited.
  1. The graphics, images, content, HTML and all information posted or sent via the Booking System are the intellectual property of CEDARS. They are protected by copyright and trademark laws and may not be downloaded or otherwise duplicated. Re-use of the foregoing is strictly prohibited, and CEDARS reserves all rights.
  1. Violation or attempt to violate the security of the platform, including but not limited to accessing data without proper authorisation, attempting to probe, scan or test the vulnerability of any system or network or breaching or circumventing any security or authentication measures, interfering with or otherwise disrupt or impair the computer systems or networks connected to the Booking System via sending a virus, cancelbot, trojan, or other technically harmful components, overloading, flooding, spamming, mailbombing System; or reproducing the information on any other platforms (online or offline) in any forms (as-is or amended); or invading the privacy of, obtaining the identity of any user of the System, is strictly prohibited. Violations of system or network security may result in civil and/or criminal liabilities.
  1. The account created on the Booking System is solely for the personal use of designated users. Students should safeguard the confidentiality of their account information and profile data. In case of any unauthorised access, or identity fraud, users should notify CEDARS immediately by endeavouring to provide relevant information for investigation.
  1. Peer Tutors and Tutees should be responsible for the authenticity and accuracy of the information and description in relation to their qualifications, tutoring experiences/ preferences, and all other related matters, provided on the Booking System on the profile and registration pages.
  1. Peer Tutors and Tutees should attend the assigned sessions following their tutoring schedule. In no way they should impersonate any person, transfer a tutoring session, or ask another individual within or outside the University to stand in a session that is registered under their names.
  1. In the event that a user violates the terms, regulations and guidelines of the Programmes, CEDARS may adopt the measures, which include but are not limited to: 
    • Remove any such content from the Booking System as and when we consider appropriate and necessary; 
    • Suspend the account of the Peer Tutor or Tutee who violates the terms and conditions, including the rules and regulations as stipulated in the Programme and Booking Guidelines; 
    • Terminate the account of the violating Peer Tutor or Tutee.
  1. Personal data contained in the Booking System are provided on a voluntary basis. CEDARS will not be held responsible or liable in case of any actual or potential breach of the terms and conditions and guidelines by any other users, and/or use of users’ personal data by any other users for any use other than matching and booking purposes. Any infringements should be reported to CEDARS immediately.
  1. The personal data (including special categories of data) collected from Peer Tutors and Tutees will be used to provide services through the Booking System, to communicate with Peer Tutors and Tutees in relation to system usage and programme support, and to meet statutory or other obligations. While the provision of personal data is voluntary, failure to provide relevant information may render CEDARS unable to provide services under the Programmes.
  1. The Booking System may contain materials provided by a third party. External links on the platform are displayed for the convenience of users. Mention of any external resources or websites administered by third parties does not constitute any form of cooperation or association between the authors, websites or third parties and CEDARS, or imply any endorsement or recommendation. CEDARS is not responsible for the links or contents provided by the websites, nor is it accountable for any use of, access to, interaction or any loss or damage arising from or in connection with such materials or linked websites listed on the Booking System.
  1. CEDARS has full jurisdiction over the admission of users and any other matters relating to the Programmes and the Booking System, and reserves the right to deny or terminate any services to any users in case of an actual or potential breach of the terms and conditions and guidelines, determined at the sole and absolute discretion of CEDARS.
